Auroris: The Eternal Light

Thousands of years ago, before there was war and before there was conquering, there was simply quori. Quori Spirits have existed for as long as time has, and they will exist for as long as time does—as long as there is hope and as long as there are dreams. Quori existence, however, is not measured by time; their light does not diminish simply by the passing of moments. While end is inevitable, even to celestial wonders such as quori, their end only comes when their light shines too bright, and their end is not an end at all, but a luminous evolution.

Quori are dream guardians. They are beings of shimmering light and limitless wisdom; their soul’s purpose is to whisper visions of courage and wonder and hope to the mortal realm. The more they share, the brighter their light becomes—and until the existence of a quori named Auroris, there was no such thing as “too bright.”

Auroris was, in every way, good. She had a natural kindness, embodied by patience and incomparable wisdom. She pursued nothing but her soul’s purpose and did not share her light to mortals alone; she also whispered to her fellow quori, offering support and encouragement to any being whose path crossed hers. Her kindness was boundless and undying, and although her light grew brighter everyday, her body grew more and more stifled.

Auroris could feel herself changing within each day’s passing. She noticed how other quori could only hold their gaze for so long before squinting away. More than that, she felt her vessel growing an unbearable heat and an impossible pressure. Although these changes were perplexing, Auroris never felt frightened. In fact, the more she embraced them, the more content and sure she grew.

One evening, after spending another day offering dreams to weary souls, a particular wave of contentment washed through Auroris’ spirit. Suddenly, she was filled with understanding, and an overwhelming peace radiated from her body. The other quori couldn’t help but feel magnetized toward her and Auroris soon found herself surrounded by the other spirits. The same understanding that washed through Auroris soon painted over each quori spirit who gazed upon her that fateful evening: her light was too bright for both the mortal and celestial world, her goodness was too grand.

And so, in a burst of brilliance, she ascended into the heavens. Her light streaked across the sky like a comet as she blazed through darkness before settling into a tapestry of stars. She became a beacon, her soul shining with a powerful golden glow—and when quori and mortals looked to her star, they were filled with an inexplicable sense of hope.

As if Auroris herself was still whispering to them.
